My Top Fifteen Favorite Christmas Songs

Trekie asked me to name my favorite Christmas songs. I had to turn off La Vie en Rose, since French music was tuning out Jingle Bells….

1) All Christmas songs by Bing Crosby give me the warm fuzzies.
2) The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)- Nat King Cole
3) Santa Baby-Eartha Kitt
4) Walking In A Winter Wonderland- Trans Siberian Orchestra or Bing Crosby
5) What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve- Harry Connick, Jr. or Count Basie, Lena Horne and Ella Fitzgerald
6) Christmas Time Is Here- A Charlie Brown Christmas
7) Frosty The Snowman, Have A Holly Jolly Christmas, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town- Burl Ives
8) Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas- Frank Sinatra & Bing Crosby, Luther Vandross or Perry Como
9) I Love The Winter Weather/I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm- Billie Holiday
10) Snow Miser/Heat Miser- The Year Without A Santa Claus
11) Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer- Dean Martin or Jewel
12) Away in a Manger since it brings back fond memories of a Sunday School Christmas production performing the song in sign language while wearing a frilly velvet and lace dress.- Martina McBride or The Judds
13) Silent Night- Bing Crosby or Nat King Cole
14) Tomten jag vill ha en Riktig - JULSÅNGER
15) Godnattsang for nissunger- Amalies Jul- Barnesanger

*I know I haven't been posting often lately, but if anyone is still reading shout out your favorite Christmas tunes, please!

I wouldn't exactly say I'm "still" reading, but I am a new reader. :)

As for xmas songs, I'v always dug God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

I do vote that going to bed at 9:30 is a weird habit though!

Keep it up.

I have lots of favorites, but in several categories.

Churchy Christmas song - "O Come All Ye Faithful" (for me, nothing else even comes close)

"The Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth" - Bing and Bowie (what's not to love?), although I loved watching the claymation "Little Drummer Boy" special on TV when I was younger. I cried everytime the lamb got run over by the chariot.

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" - the version by Transiberian Orchestra, although every version kicks serious ass.

"The Twelve Days of Christmas" - Bob and Doug McKenzie. On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me - a beer...Any song that references backbacon is an automatic classic.

"We Wish You A Merry Christmas" - Peter, Paul, and Mary. And also John Denver & The Muppets (MP3 on my site).

All greats picks, Melissa. I love the Muppets, too! I'll have to listen to your MP3.

"I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" by Frank Sinatra.

"Caroling, Caroling" by Nat King Cole.

"A Christmas Audl Lang Syne" by Bobby Darin

"Baby, Please Come Home" by U2

"Christmas in the Drunk Tank" by The Pogues.

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" by the Barenaked Ladies.

Oh, this list can go on far too long...

Back in the heyday of "Not sure if it's legal or not" music downloading I got HUNDREDS of Christmas songs I'd never even heard of or versions I never knew existed and then burned them for friends. I was the Christmas Music King. Heh heh.

Cristmas Wrappings by some female band I can't remember at the moment.

Joe - It's by the Waitresses. They also did the theme song from the short lived TV show, "Square Pegs". (The namesake of my blog). Oh and while I'm here again, I also love "Father
Christmas" by the Kinks.

Chestnuts Roasting...is the one I enjoy performing the best. Good choice.
